The life of an introvert is always about maintaining balance. Having a well-ordered life, void of interruptions is what an introvert seeks. Keeping relationships, socializing, and going out, keeping up with schedules and meetings every time, is usually draining on them. So they figure out ways to cope with all of the demands of the exhausting world around them, to avoid having
burnouts.
Introvert Burnout is a state where introverts feel a level of disconnectedness with everything around them. Here are some self coping habits, that introverts have developed over time to maintain balance:
1. Introverts prioritize their time
Introverts sometimes find it difficult to always have their time alone. Anyway, they know it is such a necessity, so they always put it as a priority over other things. This way they are happier and more productive. They see it as a healthy and a natural part of them, and it’s what makes them who they are.
2. Learn to focus more on their strengths
Another way an introvert finds balance is this, rather than dwelling on their limitations and weaknesses, they choose to improve on their strengths so that they could become better and better. Whatever weakness they possess, they try as much to develop, so it becomes a strength. Those who can’t change; they do not dwell on; instead they focus on developing the strengths and weaknesses they can work on.
3. Introverts define their terms of success
Maya Angelou aptly defines success as “liking your self, liking what you do and liking how you do it“, and I can’t agree more. An introvert leads a balanced life by setting his definition of success and the pace at which he will achieve it. He does not spend their time pursuing the world’s terms to success, or expectations of what they have to do to achieve success. He doesn’t fit into the mould of successful people around him. Instead he pursues his dreams and passions. He follows his path, not only to achieve success but to find fulfillment in whatever he does.
4. Living a lifestyle that’s in tandem with their personality
An introvert that knows that he is not really into outings and keeping up with people will do all that it takes to avoid too many social interactions. He won’t take a job that involves talking much like a marketer or a salesman. He would avoid signing up as a politician, and he will also not be into clubs and other social groups. He knows partying, clubbing and numerous sporting activities will drain his time and energy. He will live a simple life, one that he will enjoy, and is at peace. He won’t apologize because his lifestyle does not fit what people want for him.
5. They have come to accept their personality, and find peace with it
Introverts have often been stigmatized as antisocial, an oddball a hermit, etc. Being that they usually love to spend time alone, many people are generally uncomfortable with this. An introvert who leads a balanced life know that there is nothing they can do to become like those outgoing extroverts. Instead of trying to change themselves, they have come to accept who they are and live at peace. They don’t apologize if they have to stay away and be alone. They know that living up to others expectations is futile, so what they do is this; they just focus on being themselves and become better in the process.
6. For introverts, mental health is paramount
Every typical introvert always spends time in their heads lost in thought, pondering, analyzing, drawing conclusions. Introverts if not careful can go overboard, lost in their thoughts and forget the outside world. To find balance, introverts have to keep in touch with the outside world in order to not get lost. At one time or another, they go for walks, meet and relate with people, and do things for people so that they can remain sane and relevant. They know they don’t always have to be in their world all the time, that is why they still keep touch.
Introverts also know when to seek support when depressing emotions, negative thoughts and anxiety weigh them down. To seek out help from others so they can get back to themselves.
